GST - Goods and Services Tax

GST, which stands for Goods and Services Tax, is a comprehensive indirect taxation system that was implemented across India starting July 1st, 2017. This unified tax structure applies to both goods and services, consolidating and replacing multiple indirect taxes that were previously in place before GST's introduction.

The implementation of GST has streamlined the tax system, making it more transparent and efficient for businesses and consumers alike. It has eliminated the cascading effect of taxes and created a single, unified market across the country.

UTGST (Union Territory Goods and Services Tax)

  • Full Form: Union Territory Goods and Services Tax.
  • Applicability: On supply of goods or services that take place in any of the seven union territories in India.

How Does the GST Calculator Work? | GST Formula

The GST Calculator functions using different formulas based on whether GST is exclusive or inclusive of the amount entered.

GST Exclusive (GST added on top)

Actual Amount = Amount Entered

GST Amount = (Amount Entered × GST Rate) / 100

Total Amount = Actual Amount + GST Amount

When GST is exclusive, the amount you enter is the base price, and GST is calculated and added on top of it.

GST Inclusive (GST included in amount)

Total Amount = Amount Entered

Actual Amount = Amount Entered / (1 + GST Rate / 100)

GST Amount = Total Amount - Actual Amount

When GST is inclusive, the amount you enter already includes GST, and the calculator extracts the base amount and GST separately.
